I don’t know what everyone uses for training knives, but one of my students had a really good idea.  We’ve started using good cook silicone cooking spatulas.  they are about $6 a piece.  Very much resemble a true blade design with a rigid “blade” but flexible enough when a 360 goes wrong that there is no damage, “we tried it out to be sure”, lol.  Anyway didn’t know of other cheap alternative training aides and wanted to know if other people out there wanted to exchange training aid ideas to help with our programs by keeping costs down and keeping training at a premium

You may be able to get some decent toy guns to use as props, which would look real enough, but cost less than a red gun.  For sticks, you could buy a cheap broom at a 99c store, cut the handle in half and tape off any sharp end, if necessary.  That should get you two sticks at least, 50c a piece.  You could also buy one with a hollow metal handle and do the same thing.  I’ve got one of those at home, looks scary, can be swung well, but it’s pretty light, so not too much damage done if it should accidently hit someone.  Might also be used for training stick vs stick.  Or, for all out stick fighting, you could use gift wrap rolls, or just roll up a newspaper tight.  Those might not last too long, but you can swing full force, without fear of hurting someone.  Sort of like a Krav Maga pillow fight.

Just a couple thoughts about keeping costs down.

You could use those floating foam noodles for the pool. Keep them long or cut them down to use as a stick substitute. You can beat on people and not inflict much damage.

As do not forget about the environment around where you train. I used my car as a training tool for choke with a push. Go outside, to the park, etc. but be careful of who is watching. We were training off a main road at an opening to a river channel. People across the street saw a bunch of people beating on someone, called the cops. Cops came by and said hello.

Sorry as I was writing this I blanked on my other thoughts. If I remember I will let you know.
